REVIEW: RAUCUOUS BUT LOVE-FILLED EVENING WITH THE MADZ IN 'MADZLY IN LOVE'

How many times do you get the chance to watch the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers perform for free? That's right -- not very often, if at all.

There was a long queue at the UP Theater on the night of March 13, 2015 right before the start of the show. Too, it was encouraging to note that many of the audience members who trooped to the University of the Philippines Diliman to catch "MADZly in Love" were mostly young people.

If anything, this was a validation of the fact that young people aren't exactly dismissive of the kind of music that the likes of the UP Madrigal Singers make.

As expected, the Madz proved that their reputation wasn't one without basis; they were consistently excellent throughout the almost two-hour show.

The end of their set, made up mostly of love songs which they sang with aplomb, was met with hearty applause from the packed audience at the UP Theater, coupled by uniform requests of "More! More!" to which the Madz were kind enough to oblige -- and twice at that!

Staged on the occasion of the opening of UP's 2015 theater season, this concert was a testimony of why the Madz ranks at the top of the choral group ladder in the Philippines.

It was for all intents and purposes an event worth reliving and relistening to over and over again.
