Philippines celebrates 2022 Veterans Week

The Philippine Veteran Affairs Office (PVAO) leads the nationwide celebration of the 2022 Philippine Veterans Week from April 5 to 11.

The weeklong celebration bears the theme, “Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Inspirasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino.”

PVAO says the event aims to “highlight the unbreakable spirit of heroism and valor of our Filipino heroes and how this same spirit will be the driving force that will propel us to move forward as a united nation.”

This celebration could not have come at a more opportune time, with the proliferation of fake news, historical distortion, and massive disinformation propagating the further decay of the country’s democratic institutions.

The event is a poignant reminder not only of the sacrifices waged by the country’s heroes against colonial forces, but of the importance of sustaining their courage to combat the ravaging effects of poverty, corruption, and widespread impunity.

SN+1 MEDIA'S MOVIE BRIEFS: CIRCA 2000 EDITION (PART 1 OF 3)

Quarantined at home with not much to do? Now is as good a time as any to catch up on movies released a decade or so ago.

THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN
(Judd Apatow, 2005). Irrevent and fun, this movie is about Andy Stitzer, a 40-year-old who hasn't had any sex yet, ever. When his horny male co-workers find out about this, they teach him tricks and ways to finally get around his first time. Things don't seem to go as planned though, until Andy meets Trish, a 40-year-old mother of three. Soon, both are in a mutual no-sex relationship and fall for each other. They get married eventually, and Andy's first time after 40 years proved to be worth the wait to merit the most incredulous song and dance sequence ever.

PARTICLES OF TRUTH (Jennifer Elster, 2003). This film chronicles the difficult lives of a temperamental artist with a tragic background and a writer with a manic aversion to germs. The two inevitably end up in an unlikely relationship. Directed, written, and starred in by Jennifer Elster, it's a testament of coherent narrative, although there's room for improvement for the sometimes pretentious, over-the-top dialogues.

AKEELAH AND THE BEE (Doug Atchison, 2006). After a brief moment of exhileration, things turn a wee bit ugly when Akeelah, a 12-year-old girl initially reluctant to join the Spelling Bee, becomes eligible for the Nationals. Suddenly having to deal with newfound fame, pressure, and family and personal issues, Akeelah ponders whether snagging the Spelling Bee crown would be worth all the stress. Don't let the Spelling Bee awaken the anti-geeky in you though: although dragging at times, "Akeelah and the Bee" does have its own moments, highlighting its simplicity and heartfelt sincerity.

ELEPHANT (2003). It's arguable whether Gus Van Sant intended "Elephant" to bear loose similarities to the Columbine shoot-out tragedy, but the movie's storyline is uncannily familiar. What seems like a regular, yet another boring day at school suddenly ends on a tragic and bloody note when two high school misfits execute an eerie plan to open fire and shoot their classmates and teachers to death. Replete with strangely angled shots and snippets of campus life that seem almost voyeuristic, "Elephant" is a haunting work that poses important questions on violence, media, social displacement, and family relations.

HOW TO UPLOAD ADSENSE ADS.TXT FILE ON BLOGGER/BLOGSPOT IF YOU ARE USING GODADDY CUSTOM DOMAIN [2020]

So you have bought a custom domain name from GoDaddy to redirect your Blogspot blog from Blogger. You have added your website to Google Adsense and was approved. Then you see what is by now a familiar message on the Adsense dashboard: "Earnings at risk - You need to fix some ads.txt file issues to avoid severe impact to your revenue."

What to do now?

The solution to this problem, thankfully, is fairly easy.

ON ADSENSE DASHBOARD
  1. Sign in to your Google Adsense dashboard.
  2. Click the FIX NOW option at the right of the error message.
  3. Download the ads.txt file. This file will contain the following: google.com, pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
  4. Copy and save the text.

ON GODADDY DASHBOARD
  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy account.
  2. Go to Domain Manager and select the domain name you are having issues with.
  3. Go to DNS Management.
  4. Add a Record.
  5. For the Type, choose TXT and for the host, type in @.
  6. Paste the text from the Adsense ads.txt file in the Value bar, and choose 1 hour for TTL.
If you want to see if you were able to successfully upload ads.txt in your Blogger/Blogspot blog, do the following:
  1. In your browser's address bar, type in: yourdomainname.com/ads.txt
  2. Obviously you need to replace "yourdomainname.com" with your own custom GoDaddy domain.
  3. The page should show this text: google.com, pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
That's it. It normally takes 24 hours or longer for changes in the DNS to take effect, so you may need to wait for a little while before checking back the Adsense dashboard to see if the error message has been removed and ads begin to appear on your website.

Have you tried uploading an Adsense ads.txt file on your website? How did you do it? Join in the discussion by posting a comment below.
