REWRITING HISTORY: HIDILYN DIAZ SECURES PHILIPPINES' FIRST OLYMPIC GOLD

History was made today in Tokyo. For the first time since joining the Olympics games in 1924, the Philippines finally bags a gold medal. The honor belongs to Hidilyn Diaz, a tenacious 30 year old weightlifter who previously won silver in Rio 2016. Along with the gold, she also set an Olympic record for the women's 55 kilogram division when she lifted a total of 224 kilograms. Diaz returns to her home in the Philippines triumphant, rewriting history for a nation desperate for a hero.
